Solving Sapphire RX 7650 GRE VRAM issues in Civilization VII
Late-game loading times in this game are a joke—it feels like I'm back on dial-up, and 8GB of VRAM is a total nightmare when dealing with thousands of units. Once the Sapphire RX 7650 GRE hits 90% VRAM usage, random read speeds crater from 400 MB/s to a pathetic 120 MB/s. I tried lowering texture quality, but the game looked like a pixelated mess and the lag stayed—a completely pointless effort that left me frustrated. I manually bumped my system page file to 48GB and disabled super-resolution sampling in the driver to ease the VRAM pressure. HWInfo showed VRAM swap latency dropping from 80ms to 30-45ms, making turn transitions way faster. I noticed my boot time increased by 5 seconds after the tweak, which I only fixed by disabling Windows Fast Startup. GPU temps are now 60°C - 68°C, and VRAM stays between 70°C - 76°C.
