Fixing write-speed dips on the WD Black SN850 2TB for Mass Effect
The frame rate literally tanks from 120 FPS down to 45 FPS the second an autosave triggers. In a fast-paced fight, that's basically a death sentence. Looking at my logs, once the SLC cache on the WD Black SN850 2TB hits 60% capacity, the write speed craters from 6600MB/s to under 1100MB/s, sending I/O wait times through the roof. I tried turning off autosaves, but that ruins the game's flow, and I wasn't about to settle for that. I dove into Device Manager, disabled the write-cache flushing policy, and used a partition tool to ensure a perfect 4K alignment. Monitoring via RTSS, the frame time spikes dropped from 35ms to a tight 12-16ms. It's finally silky smooth. I did run into a minor file index error after a hard shutdown right after the tweak, but a quick chkdsk scan sorted it. The SSD sits at 45-55℃ and the M.2 slot is around 50-58℃. System logs show the write curve is stable now, with memory temps holding at 58-63℃.
